After a hectic day in the office an out of hours call from a TV crew filming none other than 'The Hustle' in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. So bright and early next morning Paul our trusty engineer entered stage left with the part they needed for their air conditioning unit.

The new regulation (20/20/20 policy) will set standards for energy performance for 20% less CO2, 20% renewable energy and a 20% reduction in primary energy use by 2020.

( 3 / 379 )The long awaited Government announcement on RHI released by Department of Energy and Climate Change in March.
Phase 1 – Providing long term tariff support for renewable heat technologies in the non-domestic sector and not as expected for the domestic sector.
Phase 2 commencing from October 2012. Air Source have not been included as the DECC claim more cost/benefit analysis is required.
The government is introducing Renewable Heat Premium Payments for the domestic sector.
A fund of approximately £15m has been allocated to enable payments to be made to households that install renewable heating systems. These payments will include air source heat pumps, the proposed premium for these is £850.00.
Objectives of the scheme
1) start July 2011
2) Support up to 25,000 Renewable heat installations in the domestic sector.
3) to provide a fair spread of technologies across all regions of GB
4) develop a monitoring process to allow stakeholders to understand and get the most of renewable energies.
5) key focus on-off grid properties
6) provide clear eligibility criteria including well insulated homes ased on Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)

A complete ban of R22 refrigerant, including reclaimed or recycled will be effective on 31st December 2014.
When a commodity is in low demand the costs are guaranteed to increase, the cost of R22 refrigerant is expected to quadruple in price year on year and analysts are predicting we will run out of recycled R22 refrigerant by 2013.
If you have systems running on this gas look at how you can replace it for more efficient energy saving systems and maybe also get help from the government to do it via ECA, or leasing new equipment could be a way to go for you.

1.Do they have insurance and adequate cover for your requirements
2.What is their experience – Ensure they are competent to deal with the type of work you want and have experience with the model of equipment you want to install.
3.References – Ask for references from previous clients for whom they have carried out work.
4.Accreditations and qualifications – accreditations, Construction line, HVAC, Guild of Mastercraftsmen. Qualifications, Refrigerant Handling F-Gas certificate.
5.Do not be confused by sales patter and jargon get 3 quotes to compare and get a site survey these should be free with no pressure to sign on the day.

The press article titled "Shoppers Fainting in Heatwave" reported that the stores air conditioning broke down as temperatures soared towards 30 degrees C, with customers seen "swooning" from the sweltering heat. People reported that staff had felt ill, with some passing out in the heat. Fans put in place to try and counteract the problem appeared to be insufficient to control the soaring temperatures.
