The first are refrigerant based and use an evaporator and condenser. They are the most commonly used type in the British climate. The second type are desiccant. They use moisture-absorbing materials like silica gel, are for when very low relative humidity is needed, work is being carried out at extremely low temperatures, a low dew point is essential, or for when the unit has to be ducted into the area that needs drying.

This XDry Dehumidifier is an adsorption dehumidifier that is ideal for lower temperature applications such as garages, unattended premises, holiday homes & caravans, workshops etc. The XDry Dehumidifier works on the adsorption principle and our experience with similar adsorption dehumidifiers, indicates that these dehumidifiers are far more efficient at lower temperatures than conventional refrigerated dehumidifiers that lose efficiency as temperature decreases.
