How to Calculate Air Conditioner Size for Houses
Upon confirming the measurements of each room in meters (length, width and height), amount of people within said room and number of electronic heat sources, you can begin to determine the approximate level of British Thermal Units (BTUs) required for each room.
See the supplied table for an average BTU/hr required for the room area.
Most AC BTU calculations are accurate for rooms that will contain no more than 1 to 2 people at a time under regular use; however, we recommend that you add approximately 600 BTU/hr to the calculated capacity for every additional person.
Location of the room and type is also important: if you choose to install an AC unit in a kitchen, we advise adding an adjustment of roughly 4,000 BTU/hr to the calculated AC capacity.

Why is it important to choose the right aircon size?
Selecting the right-sized air conditioning unit for your room is vital to achieving optimal temperature control. A small AC unit may struggle to regulate the heat in a bigger space. How do I calculate the kilowatts for my house?
Though not integral to the AC calculations, knowing an approximation of the total amount of Area Power Usage (in KW) is advantageous in gleaning more accurate and adequate results for your home. To do this, you must take the wattage of each electrical device and add them together to make a total, whilst also doing the same for your lighting power (again, in KW).
A KW is equal to 1,000w, meaning that 100w = 0.21KW.
How much does air conditioning cost?
The costs of your aircon system will depend on numerous factors.
Firstly, your initial setup costs will depend on the number of rooms you wish to install AC units in, the size of each room, which systems you wish to install and whether you want to install separate, individual AC units or one, homogenous system across your whole home.
Secondly, the long-term costs of installing an aircon system will depend on the prices set by your electricity provider (including if you pay by direct debit or pay-as-you-go), whether you fix the price of your fuel or let it fluctuate and how well you maintain your HVAC system/s.
