What is a ceiling-mounted ‘cassette’ air conditioning unit and why do I need one?

The spread of airborne viruses within medical and dental surgery waiting rooms is a serious health risk to both your staff and your patients. For use in a healthcare setting, our air conditioning specialists at PRA Air Conditioning recommend cassette air conditioning units, as they can reduce the spread of viruses by changing the air, increasing the amount of outdoor air and reducing recirculation of air.

How do ceiling cassette air conditioners work?

The ceiling-mounted units are hidden within a suspended ceiling and are the most common units you will find in a health centre. Although these units are more expensive, they are perfect for large reception rooms and visually sit flush against the ceiling.

If you do not have the option of a suspended ceiling, then a wall-mounted unit can do the job, they are compact and are a more cost-effective option. For large spaces, multiple units would be required (such as hospital waiting areas) but these can work well in consultant rooms and small surgery waiting rooms.

What’s the ideal temperature/humidity for my surgery?

It is really important that the temperature in any surgery is regulated. It is recommended that the temperature should be between 40-70 degrees.
