The short answer
Short answer: not at all. Air conditioning heats as well as it cools, so it isn’t a purely seasonal purchase, and our pricing doesn’t move with demand. It only changes when our suppliers raise theirs, usually once a year. The seasonal shift in demand only impacts how quickly you can get booked in.
When AC Prices Really Change
At PRA Air Conditioning, we offer the same baseline costs all year round, quoting based on the unit and the size and complexity of the system we install. A bigger, more complex AC installation with multiple rooms costs the same whether it’s booked in July or January.
Our baseline costs will only change if our suppliers change theirs, usually in line with inflation and only once a year.
Air Con is useful in Winter
If you’re weighing up when to install, it’s worth knowing that air conditioning isn’t just a summer purchase. Most modern AC systems can heat a room in cold weather, running as a heat pump when the cooling system is reversed.
A unit fitted in December is already useful through winter, not sitting idle until the weather turns.
Practicalities to consider
- Fitting AC in winter weather. Cooler conditions are usually more comfortable for installers doing outdoor work than the middle of a heatwave, though as with any outdoor job, very wet or icy days can still cause delays.
- Planning permission. Worth checking regardless of the season, but especially relevant for listed buildings or conservation areas.
The Best Time to Buy Air Conditioning
Since the price stays the same, book around what you actually need. Do you want it ready to heat your home or business this winter? Get it booked in before the cold sets in. If you’d like it ready to cool next summer, don’t leave it until the heatwave is forecast.
